Image Montaging

Image Montaging

Digitally re-create a complete region of interest or an entire specimen in 3D or 2D for analysis, archiving or sharing

The Image Montaging Module automatically aligns and stitches together your previously acquired 3D image stacks or 2D images to produce a single high-resolution image. Digitally re-create your region of interest at a high magnification for a detailed image that you can further analyze with Neurolucida, Stereo Investigator and Vesselucida Microscope Edition, publish in a paper, save in an archive, or share and save with Biolucida. Automatically montage several images, a dozen, or even hundreds of images. For maximum flexibility the automatic alignment works independently in x, y and z, or you can switch to manual mode for more control.

What you can do with the Image Montaging Module

    • Build a high-magnification montage of your tissue quicker and easier than other programs that require manually matching up and stitching images together.
    • Create and analyze an image montage on a computer with Neurolucida 360, Vesselucida 360 or Stereo Investigator workstation edition to free up your microscope for other projects.
    • Build an image montage from images created with brightfield, fluorescence, confocal or two-photon microscopes.
    • Build a digital image of your region of interest for future use; this can be especially useful for fluorescent tissue that can degrade.
    • Create a high-resolution image to publish in a paper.
    • A motorized stage is not needed to create virtual slides.

Neuron tracing and analysis from digital images with Neurolucida 360

To accurately reconstruct and quantify a neuron, it is important to use a high-magnification objective lens. However, normally, viewing a neuron at high magnification means that you can only see a small part of the neuron in a field of view. If you are using a confocal or two-photon microscope, the solution to this problem is to use the Image Montaging Module. You can capture image stacks of high-magnification fields of view on your microscope, and then use the Image Montaging module to build up a complete montage of your neuron and reconstruct it with Neurolucida 360.

The Image Montaging Module and Neurolucida 360 offer you a complete, effective solution for your neuron tracing and analysis of neurons imaged with confocal or two-photon microscopes that extend beyond a single field of view.

Microvasculature tracing and analysis from digital images with Vesselucida 360

Comprehensive vascular network reconstruction requires that complete visualization of the vessels across a large spatial distance.  If you are using a confocal or two-photon microscope, the solution to this problem is to use the Image Montaging Module. You can capture image stacks of high-magnification fields of view on your microscope, and then use the Image Montaging module to build up a complete montage of the network and reconstruct it with Vesselucida 360.

The Image Montaging Module and Vesselcuida 360 offer you a complete, effective solution for your network reconstruction and analysis imaged with confocal or two-photon microscopes that extend beyond a single field of view.

Use Stereo Investigator for stereological analysis on your high-resolution 2D or 3D image

Use the full power of Stereo Investigator for complete stereological analysis on your image montage. By using a 3D image montage of your region, you have the ability to rigorously quantify your specimens with unbiased stereological probes. You can even run multiple analyses with different parameters on the same region of interest using one image montage. This not only saves time, but also preserves fluorescent tissue, since you only have to image the tissue once to gather a wide variety of data.

With a digital representation of your specimen generated from the Image Montaging Module, you can perform all of your stereological work on a workstation to free up your microscope for other projects.

Create publication ready images and keep digital records

Use your previously acquired 2D images or 3D image stacks and build them into a complete image montage for publication-ready images.  Also, save your 2D and 3D image montages as digital records.

Access and analyze 3D virtual slides from anywhere in the world

Biolucida, MBF Biosicience solution for large-image file sharing, allows you to work with digital image montages created with the Image Montaging Module, from anywhere in the world. Save, organize and share 2D and 3D image montages with ease.
